2010 Alton Water Run sponsored by national consumer brand

Keen runners are already limbering up for the 2010 Alton Water 10K and 2K Run on Sunday 9th May, with sponsorship headed this year by locally manufactured plughole care brand Buster, in association with National Plughole Week.

Alton Water Run is organised by parent volunteers from three local primary schools - Tattingstone CEVS, Stutton CEVS and Holbrook Primary School and this year the Ipswich running club JAFFA is giving its support to the day. All money raised from the entry fees and sale of refreshments on the day is divided between the three schools.

Laura Fawcett, Chair of the Alton Water Run Committee, said: “The support we have received locally has been outstanding and I would like to thank Buster for its generous backing, along with our other event sponsors. If previous years are anything to go by, the 2010 run will be a great event and an enjoyable family day out.”

Buster brand manager Louise Perry said: “We are delighted to support this year’s Alton Water Run as part of our ongoing commitment to National Plughole Week which aims to raise awareness of the billion people worldwide who do not have access to clean, safe water.”

The 2K fun run begins at 9.30am and the 10K run will start at 10am. A barbeque breakfast will be available along with hot and cold drinks and entertainment for children. Participants can register for the event by visiting www.altonwaterrun.co.uk until May 3rd or in person on the day.

Hadleigh based company Challs, which produces the Buster brand, will also be showing its support on the day by entering a team of runners and providing each participant with a free bottle of mineral water.

Buster hopes that runners will keep their empty water bottles to save small coins as part of its fundraising for National Plughole Week. The proceeds will be donated to Oxfam GB to help the 1.2 billion people worldwide who do not have access to clean safe, water.

Last year Buster raised more than £10,000 for Oxfam GB by donating 5 pence from every product it sold. It hopes to double the amount raised this year to £20,000.

Further sponsorship has been provided by Pioneer Pumps, Sweatshop, Royal Hospital School, Survey Solutions and Wild Raspberry. Thanks also go to Anglian Water for their continued support.
